Zurich and Amsterdam, 21 November 2025 – On the occasion of the 2025 Annual Meeting of the World Leagues Association (WLA) held last week in Athens, representatives of leading African professional leagues — including the Egyptian Pro League, the Algerian Ligue de Football Professionnel, the South African Premier Soccer League, the Uganda Premier League, the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League and the Nigerian Premier Football League — met with the President and General Secretary of FIFPRO Africa for a dedicated continental social dialogue session.

The meeting was held under the framework of the Global Labour Agreement (GLA), the global accord between FIFPRO and the WLA that promotes structured social dialogue in professional football signed under the umbrella of the International Labour Organization. This constructive session resulted in a shared commitment to develop the next phase of work aimed at strengthening social dialogue mechanisms across Africa both at local and continental levels.

The conversation continued around the FIFPRO General Assembly held in Lisbon this week. It was decided that the framework for future cooperation will now be developed and participants agreed to reconvene in early 2026 on African soil to advance a dedicated work plan.

FIFPRO and the WLA reaffirmed their joint commitment to supporting the sustainable development of the African football industry, reinforcing the essential role of strong national leagues within the global football ecosystem and protecting player rights.

FIFPRO Africa General Secretary Kgosana Masaseng stated: “This initiative represents an important milestone for the African sports industry. The sector is evolving rapidly and faces challenges that require structured, effective social dialogue. Today’s discussion is a crucial step in that direction.”

WLA General Secretary Jerome Perlemuter added: “We welcome this productive exchange between our African member leagues and FIFPRO Africa. The WLA is committed to strengthening national league structures across the continent by supporting the development of national leagues and fostering long-term, sustainable social dialogue with players.”
