Tegucigalpa, Honduras, 6 May 2026. The World Leagues Association (WLA) concluded the 3rd Central American Leagues Meeting, held from 4 to 6 May 2026 in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, hosted by Liga Hondubet. The event brought together league leaders and stakeholders from across the region to strengthen collaboration and address the development of professional leagues in Central America.
The meeting welcomed representatives from the national professional leagues of Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua, and El Salvador, alongside participants from Puerto Rico and Suriname, reflecting the expanding regional footprint of the initiative. The presence of both CONCACAF and FIFA representatives contributed to a valuable exchange of perspectives on the development of the game in the region.
Across the three-day program, delegates engaged in a combination of networking activities, working sessions, and strategic discussions. The agenda included topics such as refereeing innovation—including VAR and remote broadcast solutions—data and performance ecosystems, league development pathways, and opportunities to strengthen cooperation between leagues. The meeting also featured league presentations and dedicated sessions focused on identifying shared challenges and opportunities.
Building on recent analytical work commissioned by the WLA, discussions addressed key themes impacting the region, such as infrastructures, financial and logistical challenges. These exchanges provided a platform for stakeholders to align on priorities and explore practical solutions to support long-term growth. Was also present Javier Tebas, President of Spanish LaLiga and Board member of the World Leagues Association, who addressed participants to encourage their efforts in strengthening league structures and drive the development of professional football.
The meeting reaffirmed the collective ambition of Central American national leagues to elevate standards and enhance competitiveness across the region. The open dialogue and sharing of expertise highlighted the importance of collaboration in building synergies between leagues.
The World Leagues Association extends its sincere appreciation to Liga Hondubet for the impeccable organization of the event and its warm hospitality, and to all participating leagues and institutions for their contributions.
